Dennis DeYoung, Chicago native and lead singer of the rock band Styx, sells Boca Raton home

Dennis DeYoung, the Chicago native who for more than a quarter century was the lead singer and keyboardist of the rock band Styx, and his wife, Suzanne, in October sold his five-bedroom, 4,702-square-foot house in Boca Raton, Fla. for $2.2 million.

In addition to his career in Styx, DeYoung, 75, has been involved in musical theater, including playing Pontius Pilate in “Jesus Christ Superstar” and writing a stage musical of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” DeYoung continues to maintain a presence in the Chicago area, where he paid $1 million in late 1999 for a 12-room, French Provincial-style house in a gated subdivision in Burr Ridge.

In Boca Raton, DeYoung and his wife paid $1.04 million in 2016 for the house, which was built in 2001 and overlooks a lake in the gated Oaks at Boca Raton development. They first listed the home in May for $2.8 million and they cut their asking price to $2.59 million in June before finding a buyer in August.

The house has 6-1/2 bathrooms, coffered ceilings, crown moldings, custom built-ins, impact glass windows on the second floor, a new flat tile roof and gutters and a primary bedroom suite with separate his and hers bathrooms. Outside are a pool, a waterfall spa, a pool deck with southern exposure and a summer kitchen, all on a 0.24-acre property.

Although the listing remarks on the property reference a Styx song title in promoting the house, they did not explicitly identify the house’s seller as being DeYoung, although public records are unambiguous on that score. However, some Styx jackets are visible in a listing photograph of a bedroom closet.

Listing agent Katia Reisler of Douglas Elliman and Ashley Holland, a spokeswoman for her agency, each declined to comment on the sale.

The house had a $17,292 property tax bill in the 2021 tax year.
