After social networking giant Meta and micro-blogging site Twitter, now Google is working to add a tool to Gmail that will allow let users to differentiate between impersonators and genuine senders. Google is adding “blue tick” for its verified business users who choose Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in Gmail. Unlike Twitter, Google’s blue tick is free for users.

“Look for the blue checkmark next to a company’s name in your emails to make sure they’re the real deal before you respond. Learn more 👉 https://goo.gle/42kNVJb,” the tech giant announced in a tweet.

The search engine behemoth’s popular email service, Gmail is currently offering a blue tick to brands. The brands need to verify their brand logo on the BIMI platform to add a blue tick to their profile.

“In 2021, we introduced Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in Gmail, a feature that requires senders to use strong authentication and verify their brand logo in order to display a brand logo as an avatar in emails.

“Building upon that feature, users will now see a checkmark icon for senders that have adopted BIMI. This will help users identify messages from legitimate senders versus impersonators,”  the company announced in a blog post.

According to Google, the blue tick would help users and email security systems identify as well as stop spam. The tool would also let brands leverage their brand trust.

“Strong email authentication helps users and email security systems identify and stop spam, and also enables senders to leverage their brand trust. This increases confidence in email sources and gives readers an immersive experience, creating a better email ecosystem for everyone,” Google added in the blog post.
