Nuh Violence: Locals Distressed, Mobile Internet Services To Remain Suspended In Nearby Distric

In view of the violence that erupted in Nuh in Haryana’s Mewat region, the state government has suspended mobile Internet services in the nearby districts till August 5. The government has taken the step to maintain peace and public order. The services have been suspended in districts including Faridabad, Palwal, Sohna, and Manesar, as reported by the news agency ANI. Locals are feeling distressed after curfews were imposed in Haryana’s Nuh district following the clashes.  

“We are facing trouble when it comes to procuring ration items…There is an atmosphere of fear around. We are not sending the children outside…We are very scared at night as well, don’t know what will happen,” a local told ANI.

  • The Haryana Government has said that it has decided to immediately shift the Battalion Headquarters of 2nd IRB from Police Complex, Bhondsi to district Nuh to meet imminent operational exigencies of maintaining law and order, news agency ANI reported.
  • When asked about the clashes in Gurugram and surrounding areas, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said, “With respect to the clashes, that obviously, we would, as always, urge calm and urge parties to refrain from violent actions. With respect to whether we’ve heard from any Americans, I’m not aware of that. I’m happy to follow up with the Embassy,” as quoted by ANI.
  • The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to stop protest rallies being carried out by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal in Delhi-NCR region in the wake of the communal clashes in Haryana’s Nuh and Gurugram.
  • The apex Court asked police to ensure no hate speeches were made against any community in the rallies and issued notices to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi governments over the matter.
  • On Wednesday, The violence has spread to neighbouring Gurugram, an hour away from Delhi. Delhi Police has strengthened security at sensitive places amid concerns of a spill over in the national capital. The VHP held agitations in parts of Delhi in protest agaisnt the Nuh communal clashes. The protests at Nirman Vihar metro station blaocked traffic in Delhi’s Vikas Marg, which connects east Delhi to the central parts of the city.
  • In a statement, Delhi Police said elaborate security arrangements were made at all sensitive places in Delhi and additional police forces were deployed. Drones were also used to keep a watch on the situation. “Any attempt to harm Delhi’s security and communal harmony will be dealt with strictly,” the Delhi Police said.
