‘Absolute Shamelessness’: Venkatesh Prasad Wants IND vs PAK Asia Cup Super 4 Match Washed Out

IND vs PAK Super 4 Asia Cup 2023: Ex-India pacer Venkatesh Prasad didn’t mince his words as he brutally slammed chairman Jay Shah-led Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for keeping a reserve day for India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match on Sunday (September 10). Earlier in the tournament, the group stage fixture between India and Pakistan on September 2 was called off without a result after Rohit Sharma & Co. posted a competitive 266 in the first innings. Rain came down heavily at Pallekele and the match had to be abandoned without a ball being bowled in the second innings.

All Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 matches are scheduled to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Notably, a Reserve Day (Monday, September 11) has been announced only for India vs Pakistan Super 4 match. Making an official announcement on Friday, ACC said in a statement: “If adverse weather suspends play during the Pak vs India game, the match will continue on 11th September 2023 from the point it was suspended.”

As per weather report, there’s a 90 percent chance of rain on Sunday in Colombo, the day India is slated to take on Pakistan in their first Super 4 match.

Meanwhile, Venkatesh Prasad took to Twitter to launch a no-holds-barred attack on ACC, calling the move “absolutely shameless” “a mockery” and “unethical”.

“If true this is absolute shamelessness. The organisers have made a mockery and it is unethical to have a tournament with rules being different for the other two teams, Prasad tweeted.

“In the name of justice, will only be fair if it is abandoned the first day, may it rain harder on the second day and these malicious plans not succeed,” he added.

Also, Sri Lankan coach Chris Silverwood and Bangladesh head coach Chandiika Hathurusingha — the other two teams who are in Super 4s alongside India and Pakistan — made guarded statements as they expressed their surprise at the reserve day being announced only for Ind vs Pak Super 4 match.
