The estate of the late TV tabloid talk show ringmaster Jerry Springer, who died in late April, sold his longtime three-bedroom, 3,000-square-foot condominium on the 25th floor of an Evanston high-rise on June 30 for $2 million.
A one-time Cincinnati mayor and TV news anchor, Springer had based his eponymous daytime talk show, which was known for chair-throwing and bleep-filled arguments, in Chicago from 1992 until 2009, when it relocated to Connecticut.
However, Springer, who during the 1990s rented a condo unit on the 91st floor of Chicago’s John Hancock Center, continued to own a home in the Chicago area even after his show’s production shifted to the Northeast. Records show that through his KT Real Estate Holdings limited liability company, Springer paid $2.07 million in 2007 to buy his condo in Evanston’s Sherman Plaza building from the building’s developer.
Features in the condo include 2-1/2 bathrooms, a large terrace, bespoke woodworking, a separate laundry room, a primary bedroom suite with a walk-in closet and a kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances.
Listing agent Robert Picciariello did not respond to requests for comment. However, the listing agent’s remarks noted that the unit “is barely lived in and everything is brand new.”
The Evanston condo had a $28,261 property tax bill in the 2021 tax year. The unit also comes with $18,516 a year in homeowners association fees.
Springer also long had owned a four-bedroom, 6,019-square-foot mansion on the John Ringling Causeway in Sarasota, Fla.
