Oak Brook mansion listed for nearly $12M

A seven-bedroom,15,820-square-foot Colonial-style brick mansion in Oak Brook’s gated Hunter Trails community was listed in late September for $11.99 million — a record asking price for the DuPage County suburb.

Built in 2009 and decorated by interior designer Timothy Corrigan, the three-story mansion has 10 bathrooms, arched doorways, a dining room with hand-printed wallpaper, an office, four balconies and a kitchen with an island, a pantry and a breakfast area. Other features include a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a full-size gym, a theater room, a walk-out basement with a second full kitchen, a slate roof, an elevator and a primary bedroom suite that has a coffee bar and a sitting area with a fireplace.

Outside on the 1.03-acre property are a heated circular driveway, a fountain, glazed outdoor flooring, and a private patio with an outdoor fireplace. The mansion has a five-car garage.

Listing agent Dawn McKenna declined to comment on the listing, which at present is only being marketed in real estate agents’ private listing network. Public records show that the owners, who also built the mansion, are Varsha and Mehul Shah.

The mansion had a $52,959 property tax bill in the 2022 tax year. The York Township Assessor assigns a value of $4.26 million to the mansion.

No other mansion in Oak Brook’s history ever has been listed for the amount that the Shahs are seeking. Back in 2000, Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas sought $11 million for his 30,000-square-foot, 41-room mansion, which carried a more than $8.1 million construction cost. Thomas ultimately sold his mansion in 2003 for $7.95 million — still an Oak Brook record.

Nothing in recent years in Oak Brook has sold for even half of the amount that the Shahs are asking for their mansion. In June, a two-story, 6,671-square-foot contemporary-style mansion in Oak Brook’s Hunter Trails area sold for $4.75 million, and in 2009, a seven-bedroom, 15,000-square-foot mansion on Adams Road sold for $5.45 million.
