New Delhi: TMC MLA and Dalit literature writer Manoranjan Byapari’s office in Kolkata was vandalized on Thursday morning after he accused his own party’s local leaders of engaging in corruption and criminal activities in his assembly constituency in Hooghly district.

This comes a day after Byapari alleged that his life was under threat and that he was being targeted by two of his party members.

Speaking on the vandalism of his office earlier today, the TMC leader said, “I will never say anything against Mamata Banerjee. I raised my voice against those few small party workers who consider themselves big leaders and were misusing their power to do wrong. Now, they are angry because it has been stopped. My office was vandalised today, and we have filed an FIR against it. Let’s see what happens now.”

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Byapari said “Certain leaders in my constituency (Balagarh in Hooghly district) are indulging in unethical practices. I also protested against illegal sand mining and irregularities in the public distribution system by a section of my party leaders.”.

Byapari alleged that he was facing a threat to his life from two of his own party’s members– TMC Zilla Parishad member Runa Khatun and her husband Arijit Das, Indian Express reported.

“I joined the TMC thinking I would get a platform to work for the masses. But in Balagarh, a few local TMC leaders are running a show of crime and corruption. When I opposed it, they threatened me that I would be killed,” he said, reported PTI.

The 74-year-old MLA said he had informed the party leadership about the need for proper protection to visit his constituency. However, he expressed disappointment saying they remained passive observers while internal strife among TMC leaders intensified.

“I am unable to visit to my constituency as I might be killed if I don’t get proper protection. I informed the party leadership, but they are just mute spectators. Presently, TMC leaders are baying for each other’s blood,” PTI quoted Byapari as saying.
