Twenty people were evacuated Monday morning after an Orange Line train derailed in McKinley Park, prompting major service delays, officials said.

The inbound train derailed around 6:30 a.m. near the 35th/Archer station, according to a statement from the CTA. No one on board was injured, and the passengers were able to evacuate around 8:30 a.m., said Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner Juan Hernandez.

“We worked with the CTA to transfer people to a safer area,” Hernandez said.

Major delays remain across the Orange Line Monday morning, and service is suspended between Ashland and 35th/Archer, the CTA said. Free shuttle buses will run between the two stations.

“The derailment was comparatively minor,” the CTA said. “We are working to restore service as quickly as possible.”

The CTA said it was too early to tell if the derailment had been due to the freezing weather conditions.

On Metra, dozens of trains had been delayed Monday morning. The Metra Union Pacific Northwest and Milwaukee District North lines issued advisories that trains may run 20 to 30 minutes late due to weather conditions.

Metra Electric also alerted passengers that trains were delayed 20 to 45 minutes late due to emergency track repairs. It was unclear if the issue was weather-related.
