Introducing the 2023-24 Beacon-News/Courier-News Girls Basketball All-Area Team

Players from Class 4A fourth-place finisher Waubonsie Valley lead the way, including seven college recruits from the area.

First Team

Brooke Carlson, Batavia, senior, guard: Averaged 22.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.9 steals. First-team all-state. Two-time player of the year in DuKane Conference. Program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,225 points. Committed to Colorado State.

Riley Cwinski, Aurora Central Catholic, junior, forward: Averaged 19.4 points. Special mention all-state. Set program record for career points with 1,469 and single-season points with 620. Named team MVP.

Danyella Mporokoso, Waubonsie Valley, sophomore, guard: Averaged 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.6 steals. Second-team all-state. DuPage Valley Conference’s player of the year. Scored 1,000th career point.

Leah Palmer, Geneva, senior, forward: Averaged 21 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.5 steals. Second team all-state. Two-time all-conference. Committed to Lewis.

Reagan Sipla, St. Charles North, senior, guard: Averaged 16 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals. Special mention all-state. All-conference. Committed to Quinnipiac.

Second Team

Kendra Brown, Kaneland, junior, guard: Averaged 13.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 2.5 steals. Special mention all-state. Set program record with 83 3-pointers. Scored 1,000th career point.

Sofia Corral, Aurora Central Catholic, junior, guard: Averaged 13 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals. Special mention all-state. Scored 1,000th career point.

Lexi DiOrio, St. Charles East, senior, guard: Averaged 10.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals. All-conference. Scored 1,000th career point. Committed to Indiana Kokomo.

Hannah Laub, Waubonsie Valley, senior, forward: Averaged 12.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 steals, 1.9 assists, 1.4 blocked shots. Special mention all-state. All-conference. Scored 1,000th career point. Committed to Army.

Brooke Spychalski, Yorkville, junior, guard: Averaged 16.9 points and 4.7 rebounds. Also had 85 assists and 37 steals. All-state special mention. All-conference.

Third Team

Anna Herrmann, Hinckley-Big Rock, sophomore, guard: Averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 steals. Led Class 1A with 107 3-pointers. Third-team all-state. All-conference.

Ashley Herzing, Hampshire, senior, guard: Averaged 13 points. Also had 67 steals. Scored 1,000th career point. All-conference. Committed to Macalester.

Maggie Lewandowski, Oswego East, junior, guard: Co-MVP of Southwest Prairie West. Averaged 14 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals.

Savannah Lynch, St. Edward, freshman, guard: Averaged 17.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.8 assists. Special mention all-state. All-conference.

Laney Stark, St. Charles North, senior, guard: Averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 5.0 steals. Special mention all-state. Set program career record for steals. Committed to Wisconsin-Green Bay for soccer.
