NEET-UG Row: The National Testing Agency conducted a retest of the NEET-UG examination on Sunday amidst protests and simmering controversy over the alleged irregularities in the medical examination. The retest was held for the 1,563 candidates, who were awarded grace marks to compensate them for their loss of time during the exam, conducted on May 5. However, even after the raging controversy and demands for re examination, nearly 50 percent of the candidates did not appear for the retest today.
Out of the total 1,563 candidates, who were supposed to appear for the NEET-UG retest, only 813 of them gave the exam, officials told news agency PTI.
The NEET retest was conducted at seven centres by the NTA across centres in Chandigarh, Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Haryana, and Meghalaya, after an order from the Supreme Court. The result for the retest will be announced before June 30.
Meanwhile, the Bihar police on Sunday arrested four persons in Nawada in connection with the alleged attack on CBI team, probing UGC-NET leak case.
110 Candidates Debarred By NTA For Malpractices
Two students who were scheduled to take the NEET-UG retest skipped the exam in Chandigarh. All arrangements were made at the exam centre at St Joseph Senior Secondary School in Sector 44 in Chandigarh for just the two of them to give their retest. However, when none of them reached for the re-exam, the authorities shut the gates.
The NTA debarred 17 candidates who had appeared for the NEET-UG exam at centres in Bihar over malpractices.
Earlier, the exam body had debarred 63 candidates for adopting unfair means in the medical entrance exam.
Additionally, 30 candidates from Gujarat’s Godhara were also debarred by the NTA on Saturday.
This comes as the CBI was handed over the probe into the NEET-UG paper leak by the Centre on Saturday. Hours after being given the charge, CBI filed an FIR into the matter and filed a criminal case against unknown persons in the matter.
The Centre on Saturday also sacked the NTA chief Subodh Kumar, replacing him with Pradeep Singh Kharola.
The Education ministry has also set up a seven-member panel to review NTA’s functioning and recommend reforms in the examination’s conduct.
