The Central Bureau of Investigation seized documents from the residence of the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh on Sunday night. The CBI left the residence with multiple documents after conducting a 13-hour search over in its probe into the alleged financial irregularities at the hospital.

A CBI official, on the way out, told the media “Bahut kuch hai (Quite a lot)” when asked if they found any concrete evidence, reported PTI.

The agency — which is also tasked to probe the rape-murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital on August 9 — also conducted searches at the house of ex-medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisth and 13 others in and around Kolkata on Sunday.

CBI’s anti-corruption branch based in Kolkata also conducted searches at the residences and offices of those engaged in supplying materials for the management and care of patients at the hospital, whose administration has come under the scanner after the rape and murder case.

Ghosh and three Kolkata-based private entities have been booked in the FIR by CBI registered on the direction of Calcutta High Court. Ma Tara Traders of Madhya Jhorehat, Banipur, Howrah; Eshan Cafe of 4/1, Belgachia and Khama Louha are the three private entities named in the FIR.

The FIR has been lodged under Indian Penal Code sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Ghosh was grilled by at least seven CBI officers at his Beliaghata residence from 8 am while others quizzed Vashisth, the former medical superintendent and vice principal of the hospital, and another professor from the forensic-medicine department of the medical college, among others.

The CBI team reached the former Principal’s home with a huge team of central forces at 6 am on Sunday but was made to wait for nearly one-and-half hours before he opened the door, said the officials.

Meanwhile, another team of CBI sleuths conducted searches at the office of Ghosh in the hospital and also went to the canteen in academic premises.
