Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Saturday visited the victim’s house and spoke to her parents. Following this, the Congress leader alleged that the parents of the junior doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered have been kept under “house arrest” by the Kolkata police. This comes as the Congress leader was stopped by the police at the gate of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital today when he had gone to meet the protesting doctors.
“I visited the family of the deceased doctor’s residence and spoke to them for a long time. The police have kept the family under house arrest. They are not allowing them to come out of the house on the pretext of various excuses. The police have created a barricade around them, the CISF have no clue about this,” Chowdhury told reporters.
Making another shocking claim against the Kolkata Police, Chowdhury said that the cops had offered money to the deceased doctor’s father for cremating the body quickly.
“The Kolkata Police following the directive of the state government had offered the father money while telling him that the body of his daughter be cremated without delay,” Chowdhury alleged.
The Congress leader’s visit comes as the victim’s parents alleged the involvement of more than one person in the unfortunate death of their daughter.
TMC Diverting Bengal’s Attention By Targeting CBI
He also accused the Trinamool Congress of trying to divert the attention of people from the incident by pointing fingers at the Central Bureau of Investigation probe.
“To divert the attention of the people of Bengal, they (TMC) are saying that CBI is not doing anything. Mamata Banerjee wants to escape her responsibility by targeting CBI… I want to tell her that it is also the responsibility of the West Bengal government and police to cooperate with CBI or point out its shortcomings with facts,” he stated.
He also alleged that an attempt was made by the Bengal government to mislead the case probe so that no body blames the state government for the incident. Chowdhrury claimed that due to this it remains unknown as to who the real culprit in the doctor’s death was.
The body of the 31-year-old post-graduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hosptial in Kolkata on August 9. As the incident was brought to light, it sparked massive public outrage and nationwide protests, demanding justice for the victim. Junior doctors have also been on a strike demanding justice for the Kolkata doctor and concrete security measures for medical professionals at their workplace.
Adhir Ranjan Stopped From Entering RG Kar
After Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was stopped by the Kolkata police from entering the RG Kar Hospital to meet the agitating junior doctors, he hit out at the cops saying “I went there as a common person and not a political leader, to express solidarity to them. But I was stopped from meeting them by the police… Had they shown this promptness earlier, our sister doctor would not have met this fate.”
The case is being investigated by the CBI on the order of the Calcutta High Court. As of now, only a civic volunteer of the Kolkata Police Sandip Ghosh has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the crime.
