US Open 2024: Jannik Sinner beat Taylor Fritz in straight sets in the men’s singles final of the US Open 2024 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York on Sunday to emerge as the champion. The Italian tennis player shattered the American dream by taking the match 6-3 6-4 7-5.

While the first two sets seemed a walk in the park for Sinner, who was clearly the dominant player of the two in this fixture, Fritz did up up a fight in the third set and it looked like he might manage to take the match into the fourth set. However, that wasn’t to be as Sinner was in a hurry to taste his second grand slam victory and won two games in a row to win the third set and consequently the match.

Only The Second US Open Men’s Singles Champion To Be Born After 2000

Sinner becomes just the second US Open Men’s Singles champion to be born after the year 2000. Only Carlos Alcaraz has managed to achieve the feat before him in 2022. After a dominating performance on the court which witnessed him recording an 88 win percentage on 1st serve and winning 6 out of the 12 break points, Sinner received the trophy from Andre Agassi.

The result, however, means Fritz misses out on a grand slam title. However, it further improved Sinner’s status as a major force to reckon with especially on hard courts where he now boasts of a 35-2 record with five titles, including an Australian Open victory, which he sealed in January. Sinner, currently the top-ranked singles men’s tennis player in the world, did no harm to his reputation and ended up winning the contest less than three weeks after he was declared innocent from doping allegations.
