Southland crime: Standoff in Frankfort Square, armed robbery in Lansing, and more

Bridgeview

OFFICER ASSAULT: Adrian P. Dzierzega, 22, Justice, was arrested and accused of aggravated assault/police officer and disobeying a police officer Aug. 31 after accelerating his motorcycle into a traffic supervisor directing traffic in the 7300 block of 71st Street while trying to evade the officer’s command, police said.

OFFICER PUNCHED: A Buffalo, New York, man and a Pine River, Wisconsin woman were arrested Sept. 1 and accused of battery after punching an auxillary officer after the North Coast Music Festival’s Aug. 31 program ended, police said. Adam E. Schichtel, 28, and Isabella VC McCoy, 23, separately hit the officer in the face at Geek Seat Stadium when the officer confronted Schichtel, police said.

Burbank

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Frederick L. Ward III, 21, 6800 block of 97th Place, Chicago Ridge, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, according to a Cook County court spokesperson. The charge stems from an Aug. 16 multivehicle crash in the 8300 block of Cicero Avenue, according to a police report, which adds an accusation of failing to give information/render aid.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: Officers performing an early morning Aug. 24  business check at Popeye’s, 4809 77th St., found a glass door smashed and the interior in disarray, with cash registers opened.

Chicago Ridge

ROAD RAGE: Starisha Y. Hamilton, 34, Hanover Park, was arrested and accused of battery during an Aug. 25 argument in the 100 block of Chicago Ridge Mall Drive after hitting the complainant through his open car window and then shutting the car door on him as he attempted to exit, police said.

CHOKING: David R. Taylor, 57, Midlothian, is scheduled to appear in Cook County court in Bridgeview Oct. 8, charged with battery, police said. Police said Taylor approached the complainant from behind July 8 and squeezed the person’s neck for about 20 seconds.

Evergreen Park

ATM ROBBERY: Surveillance video shows two males using wrecking bars and chains at 5:23 a.m. Aug. 30 to open the ATM at Meijer gas station/store, 9200 Western Ave., police said. Responding officers found heavy-duty chains and door framing at the store entrance and determined the damaged ATM’s interior was missing.

ILLEGAL GUN: Trekari L. Collins, 24, Dewitt, Michigan, was arrested Sept. 3 in a buying club parking lot and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle after officers found him sleeping in a car reported stolen out of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and with a loaded .40 caliber handgun under a seat without required gun permits, police said.

Frankfort Square

STANDOFF: An agitated Frankfort Square man was taken to a hospital for evaluation Sunday after a five-hour standoff with Will County deputies ended peacefully, despite his brief display of a toy rifle, police said. The man began throwing items into the intersection of 80th Avenue and Westport Drive at 1:30 p.m., and then retreating to his nearby home when deputies arrived in response to 911 calls, sheriff’s police said. The man emerged atop his roof but was eventually talked down by negotiations specialists, sheriff’s police said.

Homewood

DUI CRASH: Lantz Green, 32, 1700 block of 168th St., Hazel Crest, was arrested and accused of drunken driving, driving on a suspended or revoked license, leaving the scene of a motor-vehicle crash, resisting arrest, illegally transporting liquor, driving without insurance and illegal lane use during an Aug. 17 crash investigation at Halsted Street and Maple Avenue, police said.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE: Amy Miotke, 43, 2400 block of Terrace Avenue, Lynwood, was arrested Aug. 27 and accused of damaging property after smashing another motorist’s windshield and driver’s-side window in the 800 block of Ridge Road, police said.

Lansing

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Keith Harper, 42, Merrillville, Indiana, was arrested Aug. 24 and subsequently charged with aggravated battery to a police officer after repeatedly kicking an officer during a disturbance, police said.

ARMED ROBBERY: An employee at Star Budz Canna Cafe, 3420 Ridge Road, was shot in the back while struggling with two males during an armed robbery Friday evening, but escaped with nonlife-threatening injuries while the duo were in a back room taking merchandise, police said.

Lockport

TELEPHONE HARASSMENT: A Homer Glen man who repeatedly called an acquaintance and her family, after altering his phone number to appear to be from other family members, was arrested Aug. 31 on a warrant charging him with two counts of electronic harassment and one count of disorderly conduct, according to police and Will County court records online. Joseph K. Sweiss, 26, 14600 block of Pebble Creek Court, allegedly made at least five calls May 28, according to police and court records online.

Monee

STRANGULATION: Brandon A. Southerland, 36, 5300 block of Mulberry Lane, Monee, was arrested Sept. 6 and subsequently charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery/strangulation, police said. Southerland is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing Sept. 23, according to Will County court records online.

New Lenox

BURGLARY: A retail farm and ranch store’s fenced-in yard in the 2100 block of East Lincoln Highway was forced open Sept. 6 and two all-terrain vehicles were pushed outside and abandoned after their security devices were cut.

Oak Lawn

WEAPON: Timothy Williams, 57, Chicago, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon after officers recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun during an Aug. 27 traffic stop that began at 91st Place and Pulaski Road and ended in the 11000 block of Pulaski Road, police said. Williams was also accused of drunken driving, fleeing and driving more than 40 mph over the speed limit, police said.

ILLEGAL GUN: Cody J. Lenard, 31, Elkhorn, Wisconsin, was arrested Aug. 29 during a suspicious-person investigation at 101st Street and Cicero Avenue after officers recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun with an attached laser sight, police said. Lenard was subsequently charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/no gun permits, police said.

Palos Heights

ILLEGAL GUN: Nestor A. Bandera, 21, Chicago, was arrested and accused of unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun from his vehicle’s center console during a Sept. 4 traffic stop in the 13000 block of Harlem Avenue, police said. Bandera was also cited for driving on a suspended license, driving on expired registration and driving without proof of insurance, police said.

Park Forest

ILLEGAL GUN: A Park Forest man is scheduled to appear in Cook County court at Markham Sept. 20, charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to police and a court spokesperson. Officers arrested Trey A. Hawthorne, 20, 100 block of Warwick Street, during an Aug. 29 traffic stop after recovering a loaded Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun equipped with a loaded extended magazine and a device to convert it to an automatic machine pistol and determining Hawthorne lacked required gun permits and is also too young to qualify for either permit, police said.

Steger

ILLEGAL GUN: Stephen M.J. Byrnes, 23, Crown Point, Indiana, was arrested Aug. 31 and subsequently charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/no firearm-owner’s permit after officers recovered a loaded 9 mm pistol from him, police said.

University Park

GUN ASSAULT: A Chicago man who entered a home and threatened the residents with a handgun Sept. 7 in the 500 block of Circle Drive was arrested the same day after officers recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun from his car, police said. Adrian D. Logan, 27, is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing Sept. 23, charged with trespassing to a residence and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/vehicle, according to Will County court records online. Logan, who has a firearm owner’s permit but no concealed carry license, is also charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of domestic battery, court records show.
