Trump Swaps Suit For Apron To Make Fries At McDonald’s, And ‘Prove Harris A Phony’

Former US President Donald Trump stopped at one of America’s most iconic fast food chains — McDonald’s — on Sunday, in the final days of his third White House campaign. He changed his suit jacket for an apron at a McDonald’s franchise outlet and, according to a CNN report, learnt how to work as a fry attendant, even handing out orders from the drive-thru window while telling the customers that he had made them himself.

The former president is famously known to love McDonald’s and has now become fixated on Vice-President Kamala Harris’ statements about having worked there in her youth. On the campaign trail, he has regularly accused Harris of making up the story, though he didn’t provide any evidence. His visit to the restaurant was his latest effort to cast doubt on Harris’ work history.

The Vice-President had earlier revealed that, as an employee at the chain, she handled the fry machine. As per CNN, it has since become a central part of the middle-class narrative she emphasises in her pitch to voters as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

“I’m looking for a job,” Trump said to the owner of the McDonald’s in Feasterville-Trevose on Sunday, which he shared on his X page. “And I’ve always wanted to work at McDonald’s, but I never did. I’m running against somebody that said she did, but it turned out to be a totally phony story.”

While his comments have been largely ignored by Harris’ campaign, an official told CNN that, in 1983, she worked at a McDonald’s in Alameda, California, during the summer while she was a student at Howard University in Washington. She worked the register and manned the fry and ice cream machines, according to the official, report said.

It is unclear why Trump has latched on to Harris’ McDonald’s employment or why he worked there on Sunday with less than two weeks left before Election Day. Trump in recent interviews suggested that small details about his rival shouldn’t be overlooked.

“We would say, well, that’s not a big lie. It’s a huge lie,” Trump was quoted by CNN, “because McDonald’s was part of her whole thing.”
