The Haryana Women Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia has written to CM Nayab Singh Saini to transfer the IPS officer who has been accused of sexually harassing some female police personnel, news agency PTI reported. A purported letter alleging the sexual assault has been going viral on social media since last week. The letter is addressed to the chief minister and is said to be signed by seven female cops.

The IPS officer appeared before the Commission in person for around 30 minutes on Tuesday and submitted his version before it. Bhatia said the Commission has taken cognisance of the serious issue which is viral on various social media networks and news channels.

“You are already aware that this matter is spreading extremely fast in the news. During the hearing and after considering the facts and factual, the Commission requests that until the inquiry is completed in this matter, the IPS officer may be transferred or be posted at headquarters or be sent on leave so that the inquiry is not affected due to his influence,” the Commission’s chairperson wrote.

Hisar Range Additional DGP M Ravi Kiran earlier said a fact-finding inquiry has been initiated and the matter is under investigation.

Woman Officer Conducting Probe

The ADGP on Sunday told PTI that the IPS officer against whom the allegations were levelled in the letter himself requested an in-depth investigation into the matter. Astha Modi, the Fatehabad Superintendent of Police, is currently conducting a probe into the matter.

Modi is recording statements of all women police personnel posted in the district where the IPS officer against whom the allegations have been levelled is currently posted. Modi has recorded statements from about 60 women as part of the investigation.

It has been alleged in the letter that two female police personnel from the district are also colluding with the IPS officer in the entire matter. One of these female police personnel had later filed an FIR against a social media platform administrator for allegedly twisting facts in the case.
