A sub-inspector lost his arm, and a police driver was injured while retrieving the bodies of two passengers who fell from a moving train and died on the tracks in the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place near the Karaiya Bhadoli railway station, about 260 km away from Bhopal on Sunday evening.

According to a report by news agency ANI, Superintendent of Police Shrut Kirti Somvanshi stated that Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajendra Mishra, who heads the Bandakpur police post, had arrived on the scene after receiving reports that two men had fallen from a moving train and died.

Preliminary investigation confirmed that Mishra and his team were in the process of clearing the bodies from the tracks when a train unexpectedly approached, hitting them.

Eyewitnesses say one person tried to pull Mishra away, but during the attempt, the right arm of Mishra was severed, and he suffered head injuries. “The exact circumstances of the incident will be clear once the injured officers are able to speak,” SP Somvanshi told news agency PTI.

When questioned about the officers’ inability to hear the approaching train, the SP commented, “It remains a mystery as to why they did not hear the train approaching. We have heard that they might have been engaged in phone calls during the incident, but this information will have to be verified.”

Both Mishra and the injured driver, Yawar Khan, were rushed to the Government Medical College in Jabalpur for treatment. Due to complications, Mishra’s severed arm could not be reattached. The officer will continue treatment in Jabalpur and may be transferred to another medical facility by air ambulance if needed.
