Cyclone Fengal LIVE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Monday, December 2, 2024, that the remnants of Cyclonic Storm Fengal have weakened into a Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area over North Interior Tamil Nadu. The system, which made landfall near Puducherry on November 30, is expected to move westward and reemerge as a low-pressure zone over the southeast and east-central Arabian Sea, off the coasts of Kerala and Karnataka, by December 3.

In Tamil Nadu, heavy rainfall caused by the storm has led to widespread disruption. Districts such as Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Krishnagiri declared a complete holiday for all educational institutions on December 2, while Salem, Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Vellore, and Ranipet limited the holiday to schools only.

The storm brought back memories of unprecedented weather events, with Puducherry witnessing a deluge reminiscent of cyclonic fury not seen in decades. The Army was deployed to assist in evacuations from waterlogged streets.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Telangana, including Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Warangal, advising caution as the storm continues to influence weather patterns.
