A few months back, scores of videos were shared on social media regarding the overcrowding in the trains. Unreserved passengers were seen sitting on the seats of resereved passengers with many of them jamming the train’s corridor. However, there is another challenge which the Indian Railways is facing.

The alleged theft of railway properties like blanket, bedsheet, pillow or other things by passengers has becomea new concern for the railways.

A video regarding the same has gone viral on social media. In the alleged video, which is said to be from Uttar Pradesh’s Pragyaraj, railway staffs were seen inspecting luggage on the platform. While checking the baggages of the passenger, they found that items like bed sheets and towels that appear to have been taken from train coaches.

As per the visuals in the video, which was shared by a user, ‘whoismayankk’, a railway employee was seen inspecting passenger luggage and recovering stolen linens from the train’ coach. Since the video has gone viral, it has garnered over 4,600 upvotes. Many users also shared their comments.

Reacting to the video, many users expressed concerns about the alleged theft and condemn the act of the passenger who stole the items of railways. The users also called for action against the one who does the theft, with penalties on them.

One of the users wrote, “This is one of the reasons indian railways has such a notorious reputation. Even though it is one of the most extensive and well-developed rail networks in the world, the people who use it don’t do justice to the service provided to them. For Indian Railways to get a reputation as a world-class railway, people should start using the services as intended and not take advantage of it.”

Another user, expressing concern of the incident, said, “People often get offended and sensitive when someone criticises this country. But ask yourself – what is a country if not the amalgamation of people living in it. When a non-insignificant minority of a country of 1.4 billion is morally bankrupt, you end up with a country which views being moral and decent as a weakness. Strap in, this will only get worse.”
