A man is facing murder charges for the fatal shooting of two teenage boys in the city’s Back of Yards neighborhood in August, according to police.

The suspect, 25-year-old Adrian Sanchez, was arrested Thursday in the 4600 block of South Winchester Avenue, police said. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting of a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old on Aug. 3.

The two teenagers were shot near the front of a residence in the 4800 block of South Winchester Avenue when someone drove past and opened fire, police reported. The 15-year-old was shot in the abdomen while the 17-year-old was hit in the arm and armpit. Both victims were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition and were pronounced dead hours later.

Sanchez’s detention hearing is scheduled for Sunday at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building.
