Several people were hospitalised on Saturday as they suffered suffocation due to overcrowding at platform number 13 and 14 at New Delhi Railway Station.  While Delhi Fire Services said a “stampede-like” situation broke out at the station injuring more than 10 people, the Delhi Police ruled out a stampede.

Footage shared by social media users show a sea of crowd at the platform trying to get on trains bound for Varanasi via Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. As per sources, the two trains arrived on the platform behind their schedule time due to which the incident took place. The passengers were on their way to Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
