Hobart man charged after attacking relatives; signed plea last month for abusing girlfriend’s son

A Hobart man faces two new criminal cases after allegedly attacking three relatives.

Blake Neyhart, 25, also signed a plea deal filed Jan. 27 for abusing his girlfriend’s son in 2021, court records show.

On Feb. 11, Hobart cops responded around 5 p.m. to one relative’s apartment.

The woman said Neyhart followed her into a bathroom and yanked back her sweatshirt – causing a mark on her neck. The woman couldn’t breathe for five seconds, she told police.

He also threatened her, saying he “already called his boys,” the affidavit states.

He is charged with strangulation and two misdemeanors.

In a second incident, Hobart police responded at 9:42 p.m. that day to a different relative’s home.

Neyhart was more angry as relatives tried to calm him. He followed one relative to the hallway, pushed her, then slammed her hand with a closet door.

He pushed another relative, records show.

Neyhart is charged with domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, two counts of domestic battery and one misdemeanor.

He admitted last month to domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a person less than 14 years of age, a Level 5 felony.

If Judge Gina Jones reviews and accepts the plea, he faces two years in Lake County Community Corrections and two years probation.

He would also have to take parenting classes and anger management counseling.

It was the second time Neyhart was charged with abusing the boy that year, records state.

The boy had a large cut or laceration on his forehead and a handprint on his face as if hit from behind by an adult, a nurse said. There were also bruises on his arms, legs and neck, the nurse said. The laceration on his head was “so deep you could see his skull,” according to the affidavit.
