Be Happy review: Some films manage to reach straight to the heart, making you laugh and cry in equal measure. ‘Be Happy’ on Amazon Prime Video is one such film. Despite its cheerful title, it’s an emotional rollercoaster that will tug at your heartstrings. Be sure to keep tissues handy! Abhishek Bachchan delivers yet another outstanding performance, proving why he is among the finest actors of this generation. He continues to impress with each project, even though he remains humble and reluctant to accept praise during interviews. However, there is no doubt that ‘Be Happy’ reaffirms his position as a powerhouse performer.

Be Happy plot

The film revolves around a single father and his young daughter. She dreams of participating in a prestigious dance reality show and reaching the grand finale. However, her father is reluctant, as it requires them to travel from Ooty to Mumbai. Eventually, he gives in to his daughter’s persistent requests. Not only does he accompany her to Mumbai, but he also ends up dancing with her. Just when things seem to be going well, an unexpected crisis turns their world upside down.

How is Be Happy?

‘Be Happy’ is an ideal family entertainer. It never feels dull, keeping the audience engaged throughout. The film beautifully captures the deep bond between a father and daughter, leaving an emotional impact. The dance sequences are well-executed, and the music complements the film’s tone perfectly. What truly elevates the film is the stellar performances of the cast. There are moments that will make you teary-eyed, emphasising the importance of dreams, relationships, and perseverance. While the story itself is fairly straightforward, its execution, along with the performances of Abhishek Bachchan and child actor Inayat Verma, takes it to another level.

Performances

Abhishek Bachchan once again delivers an exceptional performance. Just like his previous film ‘I Want to Talk’, he brings depth and authenticity to his character. He seamlessly portrays the role of a stubborn father who initially resists his daughter’s dreams but eventually goes to great lengths to support her. His performance is sure to bring tears to the audience’s eyes.

The film’s true soul, however, is Inayat Verma. She shines as Abhishek’s on-screen daughter, delivering an incredible performance that ranges from humorous to heart-wrenching. Her innocence and charm make her an absolute delight to watch. Nassar, playing the role of Abhishek’s father-in-law, also leaves a strong impact with his seasoned performance.

On the other hand, Nora Fatehi struggles to leave a mark. Despite having a significant role, her performance falls flat. A particular dialogue of hers—”You can only give what you have, and if you don’t have it, you can’t give it”—ironically highlights her own struggle with acting. Her casting in this role feels like a misstep.

Direction

Directed by Remo D’Souza, the film stays true to his signature style, focusing on dance and emotions. He successfully creates a heartwarming story that blends music, dance, and drama. However, it might be time for Remo to step beyond dance-centric films and explore different genres. While ‘Be Happy’ is an enjoyable watch, it also raises the question of whether the filmmaker can take on a fresh and unconventional subject in his future projects.

Verdict

Overall, ‘Be Happy’ is a film worth watching. It’s an emotional, engaging, and beautifully crafted movie that highlights the bond between a father and daughter. With stellar performances from Abhishek Bachchan and Inayat Verma, soulful music, and engaging dance sequences, it is a complete entertainer that appeals to all age groups.
