Vijender Gupta said that these MLAs will be responsible for assisting the MCD in administrative, budgetary and urban development work.

The objective of the nominated MLAs will be to improve civic services, improve waste management, reduce pollution and provide people with a clean and hygienic environment.

Cleanliness And Development On Agenda

The MCD in Delhi was divided into North, South and East MCDs, but they were consolidated in 2022. Despite the unification, the MCD has been facing several issues, such as budget constraints, lack of proper waste disposal systems, and salary backlogs. The appointment of these 14 MLAs is expected to help tackle these challenges.

The MCD is the largest local body in Delhi responsible for sanitation, roads, streetlights, park maintenance and other civic services in the capital. The effective functioning of this institution ensures that the city’s basic amenities run smoothly.

Speaker Raises Issue Non-Acknowledgement Of Official Communications

Gupta on Wednesday wrote to Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra voicing concerns over officials ignoring communication attempts. In the letter he wrote that officials were not acknowledging letters, phone calls, or text messages of MLAs.
Gupta wrote, “A few instances have been brought to my notice where the communications of the Hon’ble Members in the form of letters, phone calls or messages have not even been acknowledged by the official concerned.”
“This is a serious matter and I think there is an urgent need to reiterate the Government Instructions issued in this regard by the General Administration Dept, Government of NCT of Delhi and the Dept of Personnel & Training, Government of India from time to time,” news agency ANI quoted Gupta’s letter.
