Cops: Man with body trauma found dead on Near North Side street

An autopsy will determine how a man died after his lifeless body was found on the Near North Side street early Saturday, according to authorities.

The body was found on the ground in the 800 block of South State Street around 1:15 a.m., according to Chicago police. The man who was believed to be 30, but whose identity wasn’t immediately released, suffered unspecified trauma to his body, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy was scheduled for later that morning. Belmont Area detectives were handling the case as a death investigation, according to police.
