Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngest player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at just 14 years and 23 days, smacked the first ball of his IPL career for a six during the Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on April 19 (Saturday).

Vaibhav Suryavanshi took the non-striker’s end as Rajasthan Royals’ chase began in the 36th IPL match. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal took a single on the third ball of Shardul Thakur’s over, prompting the 14-year-old to take the strike. Facing the very first ball of his IPL career, Suryavanshi moved towards the leg side and effortlessly carved the good length delivery outside off over the cover region for a stunning maximum. The shot left everyone stunned — his partner, the bowler and even Rishabh Pant couldn’t help but watch in awe.

Suryavanshi made an unprecedented debut at just 14 years and 23 days, becoming the youngest player in IPL history, coming in as the replacement for the regular RR skipper Sanju Samson missed out due to an injury. He was snapped up by the Rajasthan-based franchise for ₹1.1 crore at the IPL 2024 mega auction.

Born in 2011 in Samastipur, Vaibhav Suryavanshi represented Bihar in the 2023 Cooch Behar Trophy. He made headlines with a blistering 151 off 128 balls against Jharkhand, an innings laced with 22 fours and 3 sixes. Suryavanshi also featured in a quadrangular series involving India U19 A, India U19 B, England U19, and Bangladesh U19, where he registered scores of 53, 74, 0, 41, and 0 across the tournament.
