The Congress party on Sunday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party over the Bhakra dam water sharing row alleging that both the parties in working in cahoots with each other.

Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala said while Haryana faces a huge water crisis, Haryana and Punjab Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Bhagwant Mann are writing “love letters” to each other.

“Haryana is facing a huge water crisis. There is a scarcity of drinking water in the entire Haryana. The situation is very bad in 10 districts. Ponds in villages have also dried up due to hot weather. The tanker mafias are dominating in the state,” Surjwala said.

“Amid this crisis in Haryana, Chief Ministers of Haryana and Punjab, Nayab Saini and Bhagwant Mann, are only making statements and writing each other ‘love letters’,” he added.

‘Bhatkao, Latkao, Bargalao…’

The Congress MP also slammed the ruling BJP in the Centre and the state for misleading the public and stalling the issue.

“Saini ji, it takes months and years for Supreme Court verdict. You want to complicate the Haryana water situation further. The actual responsibility lies with Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and PM Modi,” he said.

“In the centre also it is your govt, BBMP is yours, Power Minister, PM Modi and CM all are yours (BJP). Nayab Saini’s policies are ‘Bhatkao, Latkao aur Bargalao’…Bhagwant Mann and BJP are in this together…,” he added.

Plea Filed In High Court

On Saturday, a plea was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the alleged deployment of Punjab Police at the Bhakra headworks as the rift continues between the two states over sharing of water.

The AAP-ruled Punjab has refused to release more water to BJP-ruled Haryana, claiming that the neighbouring state has “already used 103 per cent of the allocated water by March”.

The petition filed by Ravinder Singh Dhull alleged that the Punjab government has “illegally deployed” cops at the BBMB Bhakra headworks and Lohand Khud escape channel while flouting all constitutional duties.
