An 18-year-old bicyclist died early Sunday after being hit by an SUV on Michigan Avenue, police said.

The man rode his bike into the path of the southbound vehicle just before 5 a.m. in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue, police said. The SUV, driven by a 65-year-old man, had a green light and the right of way.

The bike rider, whose name was not immediately available, was pronounced dead after being taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The 65-year-old was cited for failure to yield, but no other charges have been filed. The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating.
