Police have opened a homicide investigation after a 72-year-old man was found dead Wednesday afternoon inside a bathtub in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the city’s South Side, authorities said.

The man, whose identity wasn’t immediately released, was discovered in a bathtub inside a residence on the 7700 block of South Avalon Avenue and pronounced dead on scene shortly after 2:50 p.m., according to Chicago police.

Police said they were conducting a homicide investigation, but did not say how they believe the man died. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.

No arrests had been made as an investigation by Calumet Area detectives was underway.
