New Delhi: The pan-India mythological drama ‘Kannappa’, starring Vishnu Manchu and featuring cameos by Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, Prabhas, and Kajal Aggarwal, hit cinemas on June 27, 2025. Despite its star-studded cast and grand production, the film has seen a slow start at the box office.

‘Kannappa’ Day 1 Box Office Collection

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, ‘Kannappa’ earned ₹9 crore net in India on its first day of release. Although this marks Vishnu Manchu’s biggest opener, it falls short of expectations considering the film’s massive budget of ₹200 crore and the presence of big-name stars.

‘Kannappa’ Occupancy Report

The film saw varying occupancy rates across different languages. In Tamil, ‘Kannappa’ had an overall occupancy of 16.45%, with Chennai topping the list. The Telugu version fared better, with an overall occupancy of 55.89%. The Hindi version had a lower occupancy rate of 14.56%, while Kannada and Malayalam versions had 13.81% and 7.20% occupancy rates, respectively.

Key urban areas like Chennai (Tamil), Hyderabad and Bengaluru (Telugu), and Delhi (Hindi) registered the bulk of shows and audience attendance.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has given the green light for a ₹50 ticket price hike for the movie ‘Kannappa’, as a special measure to boost its theatrical prospects. According to an official government order issued on June 25, theatres across the state can increase ticket rates by up to ₹50 plus GST for higher classes in both multiplexes and single screens. This hike will be applicable for 10 days, starting from the film’s release date, June 27, 2025.

‘Kannappa’ Storyline

‘Kannappa’ tells the story of unwavering devotion and sacrifice, revolving around the life of Lord Shiva’s staunch devotee, Kannappa. The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, and Preity Mukhundhan. With a production period spanning over eight months in New Zealand, the film promises a blend of mythology, emotion, and visual storytelling.

The film has received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, with some praising its climax and others criticising its dragged-out screenplay.
