WTMX-FM host Chris Petlak and his wife buy Northwest Side home for $975,000

WTMX-FM morning host Chris Petlak and his wife, real estate agent Amy Rapp, in June paid $975,000 for a new house on the Northwest Side and sold their four-bedroom, 2,150-square-foot house in Logan Square for $800,000.

The affable Petlak, 39, has been host of the “Morning Mix” on WTMX 101.9 FM since 2022, when he replaced Radio Hall of Famer Eric Ferguson, who had held the role for 25 years before stepping down amid a host of controversies. A Mount Prospect native, Petlak previously had been WTMX’s afternoon host. Rapp is a real estate agent for the Kaage Homes Team at Compass Real Estate.

In Logan Square, Petlak and Rapp paid $555,000 in 2019 for the house that they just sold. Built in 2019 and located on an oversized lot just steps from the 606 trail network’s Bloomingdale Trail, the house has three bathrooms, a kitchen with an island, a dining banquette, a first-floor bonus room and a primary bedroom suite with double closets along with a dedicated shoe closet. Outside, the 52-foot-wide back yard has a covered deck, a new paver patio and a lawn with a play set.

“We loved being able to pop up on the 606 walking/biking trail almost every day for bike rides, walks and to explore the area,” Petlak told Elite Street. “Our neighbors are some of the most wonderful people we’ve met — kind and welcoming. We had the most amazing yard…complete with a play set we built for the kids. Now, we’ll need to build a new one at the new house.”

The couple first listed the house in late April for $785,000 and sold it for above their asking price.

Petlak and Rapp decided to move to their new house — which at 3,800 square feet is much larger than their older house and also is vintage in nature — because they needed more space.

“We are having another baby and need more space for our family,” Petlak said. “Now, we’ve found the perfect home our family can grow in and we hope to live in it for a long, long time. Though I may be biased, our real estate agent — my wife Amy — is one of the best in Chicago and she timed the sale of our house and the market perfectly.”

Built in 1903, the couple’s new house sits on a corner lot and is full of vintage details, including wainscoting, picture and plate moldings, an arched passageway with oak trim and a wraparound grand oak staircase. Other features include recessed lighting, five panel doors with original hardware, oak floors, Thermopane windows and a large attic with skylights.

“The new house has all the classic Chicago charm and history we’ve been searching for and sits on a gorgeous, tree-lined street,” Petlak said. “What more could we ask for? We’ve already met a few of the neighbors and it seems we’ve struck gold once again — cementing what we thought all along — (that) this is the neighborhood for us and our growing family. Amy and I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and were excited to deepen our roots here. We’re proud to call the city home.”

The couple’s new house had been listed for $995,000.
