27 Lucknow Hotels To Be Issued Notice Over Fire Safety Non-Compliance

Around 27 hotels in the Uttar Pradesh capital of Lucknow will be issued fresh notices by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) owing to glaring negligence in fire safety compliance. 

The move comes after a fire broke out at the Mohan Hotel in the Charbagh area on Sunday night. Despite having no valid fire no objection certificates (NOC), most of these hotels continue to run their businesses. 

A report by Hindustan Times earlier revealed that out of 2,600 hotels, guest houses, and restaurants operating in the state capital, only 93 have a valid fire NOC, according to the state’s fire department. 

The 27 hotels that will receive the notices are located in Lalbagh, Wazirganj, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Qaiserbagh, Arya Nagar (Naka), Vidhan Sabha Road, Rani Laxmi Bai Road (near Parivartan Chowk), Mall Avenue, BN Road, Ashok Marg, Rana Pratap Marg, Latouche Road, and AP Sen Road (Hussainganj).

Action Pending Since 3 Years 

LDA vice-chairperson Prathmesh Kumar confirmed the development to HT saying that actions against the 27 hotels are pending but assured that steps will now be taken. 

“We will re-inspect the properties, verify their maps and illegal constructions, and re-issue notices,” he said.

The hotels were first issued the notice after a devastating fire at Hotel Levana Suites claimed the lives of four people on September 5, 2022. 

The civic authority failed to take any action against these establishments back then as they approached the higher authorities, appealing for reconsideration of notices for sealing.

However, the LDA has decided to reevaluate the maps and fire NOCs.

The officer also said that in many cases the LDA clerical staff failed to bring up files for final approval, which stalled the sealing process. Some of the matters reached courts which led to further delay, the official added.
