3 Women From Bihar’s Gopalganj Among 47 Stranded In Thailand, Vietnam; Forced Into Cyber Slaver

In the pretext of getting high-paying jobs, about 47 people from Gopalganj district of Bihar are stranded in Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia, and they are forced into conducting cyber fraud and other illegal activities.

As per the information, three woman are also among these 47 people. The women trapped abroad are said to be residents of Jadopur Road, Sareya Mohalla of Nagar police station area and Noniya Chhapar village of Bhore police station area.

A report from ABP News outlined that those people who are stranded abroad have sent videos and appealed to the police, administration and government to provide them immediate assistance in this matter. The police and Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) have started the investigation after the matter came to the light. 

Taking action in the case, Gopalganj SP Awadhesh Dixit has constituted three teams for the investigation. The team will be led by Cyber ​​DSP Avantika Dilip Kumar and DSP Pooja Prasad. 

As of now, the investigation conducted by the police and EOU has revealed that most of the people were sent to Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia by the agents on the visas of tourist, religious and family visas. A senior police official said that the accused agent, who provided people with those visas, will be arrested.

Describing their ordeal about how they are tortured, when they protested against this cyber slavery, Wahid Roshan and Saud Ali, residents of Fatehpur village of Mirganj police station sent a video and appealed to the government and administration help them to bring back to India. They said that an agent from UP had sent them to work and they are stuck in Thailand for three months.

According to the Home Department, about 47 people from Gopalganj are stranded in different countries including Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia. However, with the help of the Indian Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs, nine of them have returned. These include three from Hathua police station area, two from Uchkagaon police station area, two from Manjha police station area, one each from Barauli and Kateya.

A report from Business Standard, published in September 2024, stated that as per official data, 29,466 Indians who travelled to Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam between January 2022 and May 2024 on visitor visas have not returned.
