K-pop megastars V of BTS and Jennie of BLACKPINK are once again at the centre of a media frenzy after a kissing picture of the two idols went viral on social media. Long-running speculations of a love connection between the two were rekindled by the photograph, which quickly went viral on several platforms. Fans’ thrill was short-lived, however, as followers quickly disproved the image.

The picture was shared on Instagram by someone posing as a former employee of BLACKPINK’s agency, YG Entertainment, sparking the issue. The picture showed a couple kissing; the woman was wearing all-white clothing, while the man was wearing black trousers and an olive sweatshirt. With the message, “Who do you think these are?” the leaker baited fans. He added, implying more unreleased material, “I told you I have many pictures, but I will post them in due time.”

The post stoked speculations about V and Jennie, who have been the focus of dating rumors since 2022, and received hundreds of thousands of views in a matter of hours.

Internet users drew attention to the picture’s strong resemblance to a famous kissing scene between Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk that was taken in 2015 when the Hollywood pair was together. “That’s not Taehyung, I can recognize him even from a distance,” a dedicated fan said with confidence.

By sharing side-by-side comparisons, fans verified that the picture was really a recycled photograph of Cooper and Shayk, who dated from 2015 to 2019, rather than V and Jennie.

The agencies representing Jennie and V have been silent on the matter of the dating rumours, so fans have had to depend on fact-checking and their own knowledge of the idols’ public appearances to dispel such claims.
