Aadhaar card is integral in India, where a single identity plays a key role in accessing essential services. This 12-digit unique identifier allows residents to tap into Government benefits across various sectors. However, as the nation embraces digital advancements, the Aadhaar number is becoming a target for misuse and fraud.

With the Centre’s push for a Digital India, Aadhaar has streamlined access to banking, healthcare, and education. But with its widespread use comes an increased risk of identity theft. Imagine the chaos of discovering your Aadhaar number has been compromised — potentially impacting your finances and security. This scenario is a growing concern for those who value their privacy and want to safeguard their personal information.

How To Monitor & Protect Your Aadhaar

Fortunately, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has provided tools to help citizens monitor the use of their Aadhaar numbers.

To check for misuse, follow these steps:

  • Go to the official myAadhaar portal.
  • Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code, then click ‘Login with OTP’.
  • You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Use this to proceed.
  • After logging in, navigate to your Authentication History to review any activities linked to your Aadhaar.
  • Choose a timeframe and examine the listed entries for any suspicious or unfamiliar actions.
  • If you spot anything unusual, report it immediately.

What To Do If Your Aadhaar Is Misused

In case you do find out that your Aadhaar is being used without your authorisation, taking action against fraud is crucial.

What you need to do is register a complaint with the UIDAI via its helpline at 1947 or email support at help@uidai.gov.in.

As digital threats continue to evolve, staying vigilant is essential. By taking these steps, you can ensure that your Aadhaar card remains a tool for accessing benefits, not a potential gateway to fraud.
