IND Vs ENG, 5th T20I: Indian opener Abhishek Sharma endured a memorable outing at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, as the left-handed batsman broke a series of records with his sensational 135-run knock vs England in the 5th T20I.

India hammered England by 150 runs, and the 24-year-old not just contributed with the bat, but also with the ball, by scalping two wickets inside his first over.

Abhishek Sharma now holds the record for fastest T20I ton in terms of overs, as the Indian batter managed to hit the triple-figures inside 10.1 overs, surpassing previous-record holder Quinton De Kock, who managed to attain the feat inside 10.2 overs against West Indies, at the Centurion in 2023.

Here’s a look at records broken by Abhishek Sharma:

Most sixes by an Indian batter in a T20I innings:

  • 13 – Abhishek Sharma vs England in Mumbai, 2025
  • 10 – Rohit Sharma vs Sri Lanka in Indore, 2017
  • 10 – Sanju Samson vs South Africa in Durban, 2024
  • 10 – Tilak Varma vs South Africa in Johannesburg, 2024

Highest individual score for India in T20ls:

  • 135 – Abhishek Sharma vs England in Mumbai, 2025
  • 126* – Shubman Gill vs New Zealand in Ahmedabad, 2023
  • 123* – Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Australia in Guwahati, 2023
  • 122* – Virat Kohli vs Afghanistan in Dubai, 2022

Abhishek Sharma won the ‘Player of the Match’ award, as he single-handedly outscored England’s entire batting line-up, and stated that ‘the coach and captain back him’.

“Obviously, this one is special as it is coming for the country. Amazing feeling. I mean I have told this before as well. When I see it’s my day, I always try to go hard from the first ball. The way the Coach and Captain have treated me from the first day, they have always backed me and wanted me with that intent so I am really happy,” said Abhishek Sharma.

“Obviously when the opponents are bowling in 140-150 kmph, you always have to react early. The plan was to react to the ball and play my shots. No I think, obviously when you are hitting a world class bowler over the covers for a maximum, it is a special shot but I would say the sixes I had hit to Adil Rashid those were special for me,” said the Indian batter.

“(Drive shots down the ground) Yes obviously I remember that because that was the shot which Yuvi Paaji mentioned last day so he was happy for those shots. Probably he (Yuvraj Singh) should be happy after this. He always wanted me to play more than 15 overs and I wanted to contribute as much as I can for the team,” he added.
