Big sedans have lost interest for buyers as they are migrating towards SUVs, especially in the D segment or the premium segment. Skoda was one of the last players in this segment space to offer the Superb but that has also been discontinued while the latest generation has been unveiled which takes a bigger leap forward in terms of technology.
The new Superb is bigger and is now available with a mild hybrid while getting the latest Skoda design language which also shows hints of the Slavia.
It is 40mm longer and is slightly narrower while getting a sharper look with angular headlamps. It gets new Matrix LED headlamps seen on more luxurious cars too while the traditional sedan shape still remains. The fourth-gen model gets a new Octagonal grille as well while the slimmer tail-lamps are more sleek.
Inside, it is more premium but the focus is on technology with a 13-inch screen and a 10-inch digital driver display. There is an optional head-up display too. Further, there are dials that can be customised and have haptic elements in the centre console which can be controlled for various functions.
Other features include a 14-speaker Canton stereo system, sustainable materials including recycled ones and loads of new technology additions including driver assistance features. There is also a focus on space with more comfort.
There are six powertrains on offer and it also gets a 1.5 TSI petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology for the first time. There are also plug-in hybrids on offer plus diesel too.
The question is whether it will come to India or not while the new Superb makes sense as a chauffeur-driven car, its volumes could be dependent on whether it comes as a CBU or assembled here. As a CBU it would be expensive and could come here as a limited numbers model but nothing has been revealed yet hence, it is not clear whether it will come or not.
