An Aurora man has been charged with home invasion and domestic battery after he allegedly entered a home unlawfully on Sept. 15, battered the occupants and then fled from police, a news release from the Aurora Police Department said.
Nimai Fernandez-Oropeza, 26, has been charged with felony home invasion, felony criminal trespassing into a residence, two felony counts of aggravated fleeing/eluding, four misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, a misdemeanor count of interfering with the reporting of domestic violence, a misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property and multiple traffic-related offenses in connection with the incident, according to the release.
At around 11:13 p.m. on Sept. 15, Aurora police officers were dispatched to a home on the 900 block of Wood Street for a report of domestic violence, the release said.
Fernandez-Oropeza is accused of entering the home unlawfully, physically battering an adult woman and striking a boy attempting to intervene, as well as causing property damage, before fleeing in a black Dodge Durango, the release said.
Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but it drove away, the release said, and police stopped the pursuit for public safety reasons. Another jurisdiction also attempted to stop the Durango before terminating its pursuit, officials said.
About half an hour later, Aurora officers located the vehicle near Andover and Middlebury Drive and took Fernandez-Oropeza into custody, the release said.
Per Kane County court records, Fernandez-Oropeza has a status call set for Friday, Sept. 26.
The incident remains under investigation, the police department said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Division at 630-256-5500.
