A three-vehicle crash at Farnsworth Avenue and Mountain Street in Aurora on Monday flipped a vehicle and left a man from Aurora dead, police said.

The Aurora Police Department is investigating the crash, which took place at around 1 p.m. and closed the intersection for several hours, according to a police department news release.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a white 2024 Nissan Kicks was traveling eastbound on Mountain Street when it attempted to cross Farnsworth Avenue, officials said in the release.

The Nissan was struck by at least one of two vehicles heading northbound – one a black 2008 Cadillac Escalade and the other a maroon 1997 Ford Explorer, according to the release. The Explorer then rolled over, pinning its driver inside, police said.

The Aurora Fire Department extracted the 27-year-old man from the vehicle, and he was transported to Ascension Mercy medical center in Aurora with life-threatening injuries, which he succumbed to at around 2:15 p.m. Monday, the release stated.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death, officials said.

The identity of the man who died has not yet been released.

Two people from the other vehicles involved in the crash were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

The crash also damaged Aurora city property, including a pedestrian sign, a streetlight and a guardrail, the release stated.

The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the crash. Officials are encouraging anyone with information to call 630-256-5330 or email tips@aurora.il.us
