The BCCI declared its partnership with giant sportswear Adidas as its new kit sponsor. BCCI secretary Jay Shah was the one who took to his Twitter handle and announce the new sponsor for the Indian team. Fans will be witnessing the Indian team in a new jersey the next time they will step on the field.  Currently, most of the players are taking part in the IPL, playing for their respective franchises and then they will be featuring in whites to face Australia in the 2023 World Test Championship final.

“I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s partnership with @adidas as a kit sponsor. We are committed to growing the game of cricket and could not be more excited to partner with one of the world’s leading sportswear brands. Welcome aboard, @adidas,” tweeted Jay Shah.

“The fine print of the contract is being worked out. But the valuation is set to go up,” a BCCI official said.

Earlier, in 2020, the BCCI shaked hands and signed a three-year contract with the Mobile Premier League’s sports firm MPL Sports in order to replace Nike. Apparel brand Killer Jeans then came in as an interim sponsor after that deal ended before time and their contract will expire on May 31, reports said.

MPL was paying 65 lakh per match and 9 crores as royalty for a three-year deal with the BCCI.

“Imagine, they get to leverage from Virat Kohli, who is a Puma athlete, and Rohit Sharma, an Adidas athlete, with this association,” an industry executive stated.

“No wonder, Killer are happy to stretch their deal through April-May, which are basically IPL months, where the Indian team will not even be on the park.”
