Bicyclist critically injured in Lower West Side hit-and-run: police

A bicyclist was hospitalized Saturday afternoon after he was struck by a pickup truck that left the scene in the city’s Lower West Side, according to Chicago police.

The victim, 59, was riding a bike in the 2300 block of West 21st Street when he was struck by a westbound Dodge pickup just before 3:15 p.m., police said. The truck driver continued west and fled north on Western Avenue, police said.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, according to police. Authorities had not yet released any images of the fleeing vehicle. The case was being handled by the police Major Accident Investigation Unit.
