In the midst of the recent controversy over alleged Pakistan zindabad shouts in a PFI protest in Pune, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Pune president Jagdish Mulik will meet the city’s police commissioner on Sunday, news agency ANI reported.
The BJP leader is scheduled to meet with Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta to register a case against anti-social elements who shouted pro-Pakistan chants during the PFI demonstration.
Earlier on Saturday, Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said he will speak to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis about banning the Popular Front of India (PFI), which is involved in anti-national activities in the state and country.
His comments came after a video surfaced on social media showing a “Pakistan Zindabad” shout purportedly hoisted at a PFI-organized rally in Pune.
The BJP head went on to say that individuals who shouted “Pakistan Zindabad” should be arrested for sedition.
“I will speak with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to ban PFI, which is involved in anti-national work in the state and country. I will demand from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister that wherever they are in Maharashtra, find them and arrest them by filing a case of sedition against them,” Bawankule was quoted by ANI in its report.
With a video showing ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ chants purportedly yelled at a PFI protest outside the District Collector’s office here on Friday against the NIA-led multi-agency raid, Pune Police have said they will investigate and verify the tapes, and appropriate action will be taken.
“We have received some videos, we will investigate and verify them completely and take action accordingly,” said Sagar Patil, DCP Zone II, Pune.
‘Pakistan Zindabad’ shouts were heard outside the District Collector’s office in Pune city yesterday, when PFI cadres gathered in protest of recent ED-CBI-Police searches in 15 states.
Some of the phrases in the film were weak due to the strong ambient noise in the original video feed. Reporters on the scene confirmed the information concerning the slogans.
Pune police detained some demonstrators, and a charge was filed against them for unlawful assembly. Some protesters were also detained by police.
On September 22, joint teams of the National Investigation Agency, the Enforcement Directorate, and police launched various raids against PFI in 15 states, arresting over 106 members.
