A 17-year-old boy faces three charges of attempted murder for allegedly firing on a group of Chicago police officers Sunday evening in South Chicago, police announced Monday night.

Police said officers were responding to a disturbance on the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when a person standing in a group took out a gun and fired toward them. Police detained two boys, both 17, as the group dispersed and the officers recovered two firearms.

No one was injured in the confrontation and none of the officers fired their guns, police said. The charged teen, arrested in the 8200 block of South Shore Drive less than an hour after allegedly firing shots, also faces one felony count of unlawful use of a machine gun or automatic weapon, according to a police news release.
