NEW YORK — Brian Gutiérrez scored on a penalty kick in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time to rally the Chicago Fire from two goals down to a 2-2 draw with New York City FC on Saturday night at Citi Field.
Alonso Martínez scored twice in the first half to guide New York City (11-9-6) to a 2-0 lead at intermission.
Martínez used Maxi Moralez’s third assist of the season for the lead in the 15th minute. Martínez made it 2-0 seven minutes later when Keaton Parks notched his second assist on Martínez’s club-high 10th goal.
The Fire (6-12-8) began their comeback in the 78th minute when Hugo Cuyper took a pass from rookie defender Tobias Salquist and scored his team-leading 10th goal in his first season in the league. It was Salquist’s first career assist in his sixth start and eighth appearance.
Gutiérrez’s equalizer came after a yellow card on NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese for poor sportsmanship.
The Fire return home to play Inter Miami on Saturday.
Racing Louisville 3, Red Stars 1
Racing Louisville jumped into a playoff spot with a home win.
Uchenne Kanu got things started for Louisville in the 12th minute. Bethany Balcer, who joined Louisville this week via a trade, cut the ball across the goal for an unmarked Kanu to tap in.
Red Stars rookie Jameese Joseph dribbled into the box in the 59th minute and finished into the upper-right corner to tie it.
Kayla Fischer subbed into the match in the 56th minute and made an immediate impact for Louisville (4-6-7). Five minutes after entering, Fischer assisted Marissa DiGrande’s goal before dribbling around goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and scoring into an open net in the 77th minute.
Louisville moved into eighth place, the final playoff position, with nine matches remaining. The Red Stars (7-8-2) sit in seventh place.
