The League of Women Voters of Central Kane County will host a candidate forum on Monday in Sugar Grove featuring candidates running in five contested races in the April 1 general election.
Candidates for Sugar Grove Fire Protection District trustee, Waubonsee Community College trustee, village of Sugar Grove trustee, village of Sugar Grove president and Kaneland School District board in the April 1 general election have been invited to participate, according to a press release from the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County.
The forum will be divided into five segments, by office, organizers said.
The forum is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Academic and Professional Center at Waubonsee Community College, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive in Sugar Grove. Doors will open to the public at 5:45 p.m.
The League of Women Voters partnered with the Sugar Grove Public Library and the Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce to plan the forum, according to the release.
The event will be live-streamed and available for later viewing on the websites of the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County (lwvckcil.com) and the Illinois Voter Guide (illinoisvoterguide.org).
All candidates will be allowed time at the beginning and at the end of their respective segments for opening and closing statements, according to the release.
During each segment, candidates will respond to audience questions submitted during registration and throughout the event, the release stated. Audience members’ questions will be reviewed by trained League of Women Voters members for clarity and relevance and will be asked by the event moderator, organizers said.
“We are grateful to the Sugar Grove Public Library and the Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce for their partnership in planning this event,” said Patti Lackman, Voter Service chair of the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County, in the release.
“The League of Women Voters is non-partisan,” she said. “We never support or endorse candidates or political parties, and we work hard to ensure our candidate forums are conducted in a fair and impartial manner. Campaign signs, literature and paraphernalia are prohibited at League candidate forums.”
