Chicago Bears will host Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills for joint practices before preseason games

Halas Hall will be a busy place this summer.

The Chicago Bears will host two sets of joint practices with the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills in August at their training facility in Lake Forest ahead of preseason matchups.

The Bears will host the Dolphins in the preseason opener at noon Aug. 10 at Soldier Field. The date and time of that game was previously unannounced when the NFL schedule came out last week. The Dolphins will visit Lake Forest in the days before the game.

A week later, the Bears will host the Bills for practices at Halas Hall before an Aug. 17 preseason game at Soldier Field.

The dates and times for all training camp practices have yet to be announced. Typically about a dozen practices are open to the public during camp.

The Bears have participated in joint practices frequently over the past several years. They hosted the Dolphins for two days in 2021. In 2023, they practiced at the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp facility for two days before a preseason game at Lucas Oil Stadium. Last year, Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals visited Lake Forest for one day of practice before a preseason game at Soldier Field.

The 2019 renovations at Halas Hall expanded the facility to include four outdoor fields and one indoor field, which gives it plenty of space to host two 90-player rosters.

NFL coaches love any opportunity to test their team against another opponent. Doing so in a controlled environment like practice is a big plus, given that teams don’t play their starters much in preseason games.

Here’s the full Bears preseason schedule:

  • Game 1: vs. Dolphins, Sunday, Aug. 10 (noon, Fox-32)
  • Game 2: vs. Bills, Sunday, Aug. 17 (7 p.m., Fox-32)
  • Game 3: at Chiefs, Friday, Aug. 22 (7:20 p.m., Fox-32)
