As legal troubles mount over Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remark on ‘India’s Got Latent’, a voice note allegedly of stand-up comedian and show host Samay Raina has surfaced online. The recording, which is now widely circulated on social media, presents Raina’s perspective on the role of comedy.
A clip of the voice note has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter). However, the authenticity of the clip remains unverified. The message recorded seems to be an older statement and not related to the current controversy.
Samay Raina’s take on comedy
In the voice note, the comedian is heard saying: “If you know someone who wants to shoot p**n on our show, please send them over. It’ll be great fun, I swear. That will break the Internet. So, that’d be epic!”
He goes on to argue that comedy should not be bound by moral expectations. “Secondly, the purpose of comedy is not to give a moral science lecture. Comedy has no responsibility. Comedy is comedy. Comedy is to take you away from reality and make you have fun.”
Raina further explains that audiences watch comedy as an escape from their problems. “People have many issues in life. People switch from life and watch comedy. If you give them moral lectures, it won’t be entertaining.”

In another part of the audio, Raina defends the idea that comedy should have no restrictions. “Everyone has a different topic that makes them uncomfortable. For some, it’s death. Some say they don’t want to hear jokes about children. Some ask us not to crack jokes on abortion. Or depression.”

He continues, “But, if we fulfil one request, we will have to accommodate all. In that case, ChatGPT se kara lo comedy (let ChatGPT entertain you). The point is there’ll be comedy on everything and on every topic. The purpose of comedy is not to make you a better person or make you wiser. Comedy is entertainment, having fun. We all laugh, and then we all die. That’s all, my brother.”

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Cyber Police has lodged an FIR over the ongoing controversy surrounding the show. The case has been registered against comedian Samay Raina, show producer Balraj Ghai, and several others. The controversy
The controversy ignited after a clip from India’s Got Latent featuring Ranveer Allahbadia went viral, sparking outrage over his offensive remark. During the episode, the podcaster posed an inappropriate question to a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents having sex all your life or join in once and stop it forever?” The remark was widely condemned, with netizens criticizing its distasteful nature.
Amid the backlash, Allahbadia took to social media to issue an apology, acknowledging his misjudgment.
The contentious clip has already been taken down from YouTube after the Centre issued a directive to the streaming platform. The Maharashtra Cyber Police has also written to YouTube, requesting the deletion of all episodes of ‘India’s Got Latent’ from the platform.
