A commercial building on Aurora’s south side was deemed uninhabitable following a Monday afternoon fire that was battled by multiple crews from the Aurora and Montgomery fire departments.
There was already heavy fire and smoke coming from the northeast corner of the building in the 1000 block of Grace Avenue when crews arrived, according to a news release from the Aurora Fire Department.
The release said multiple 911 calls were made about the smoke and flames around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Although 911 dispatchers advised that there were possibly up to four employees still inside the burning building, crews found no one when the building was searched, according to the release.
The fire was brought under control within an hour, the release said.
A total of 29 members of the Aurora Fire Department responded to the scene, including five engine companies, two truck companies, three medic units and five chief officers, the release said.
The Montgomery Fire Department responded with one engine company and another chief officer.
The investigation into the cause of the fire by the Aurora Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Team is still ongoing, according to the release.
