Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, General Secretary KC Venugopal and Rahul Gandhi are meeting with Madhya Pradesh party chief Kamal Nath, Digvijaya Singh and other leaders at Congress headquarters in Delhi. The leaders will be discussing strategy for the upcoming elections in the state. Notably, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are two of the several crucial states going to polls this year. While Congress eyes to secure a majority in MP, it has the tough task of saving Rajasthan amid the infighting between CM Ashok Gehlot and party leader Sachin Pilot.

The proposed meeting comes close on the heels of Pilot’s ultimatum that if his three demands from the state government were not met by the end of this month, he would launch a state-wide agitation.

Pilot has also asked for a high-level inquiry into the alleged scams that took place during the tenure of the former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje government, as one of his demands, reported PTI. The meeting was earlier scheduled on May 26 but was later postponed.

According to PTI, a senior Congress leader said that the high command will meet Gehlot and Pilot separately to bring them on one platform ahead of the assembly elections.

Kharge was successful in bringing Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar together in Karnataka and the party now wants to try the same formula in Rajasthan, the senior leader said, as quoted by PTI. After its massive victory in Karnataka, Congress is full of confidence and aims to cash in with the energy and support it got in the southern state by dethroning the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).
