Days after his departure, Lake Zurich leaders to pick replacement for Trustee Bobrowski

Eight people have applied to replace a Lake Zurich village trustee who has stepped down because of moving away, with the mayor and Village Board set to name a replacement Monday.

Trustee Dan Bobrowski announced his resignation July 12 and he officially leaves his post Aug. 1.
With the announcement of his departure, village leaders began asking people to apply to replace him.

Bobrowski was elected village trustee in April 2021. Whomever is appointed to replace him would finish the remainder of his four-year term – which is April 2025.

Eight applicants are vying for the position, said Assistant Village Manager Michael Duebner, adding that the applicants make up a swath of different occupations as well as time that they have been residents.

“The most important part is that all of them are ready to volunteer a considerable amount of their free time to help out and provide that governance for Lake Zurich through the Village Board,” he said.

Bobrowski is relocating for a work opportunity but has lived in Lake Zurich since 1997. He ran for the trustee seat because he wanted to give back to what was a great place to raise a family, he said.

“He’s been a valuable member of the Board of Trustees,” Duebner said. “We absolutely appreciate all the time he has spent and all of his efforts throughout the years of him being a trustee.”

Mayor Tom Poynton will make an appointment to Bobrowski’s seat at the Village Board meeting Monday night, and the trustees will vote on the mayor’s selection, Duebner explained.

The Lake Zurich Village Board includes six trustees and the mayor. Trustees are elected at-large as opposed to particular areas, wards or districts.

Bobrowski told Pioneer Press in a phone interview Tuesday that as trustee, he concentrated on business development. He enjoyed working with local businesses in addition to seeing the town transition from well water to Lake Michigan water.

“I think I’m leaving the village in a really good position, and I really have admired and valued the leadership of the mayor and the work of all of our administration. I think the village is very well run, which I learned over four years. I’m very impressed with the way it’s run and managed. I think the village has a good Board of Trustees that will lead it to a very successful and prosperous future going forward too.”
